6-Hour Workshop: Field Macro Session
Conducted outdoors in a natural setting within Nottingham/Nottinghamshire, this one-on-one session costs £240.00. If you wish to bring a non-learning companion, that's perfectly acceptable. For those wanting to share the workshop with one or two additional learners, there's a discount: two people pay £195.00 each, and three people pay £175.00 each. Note that there is a 1-hour lunch break (please bring your own lunch), making the total session 7 hours long.
During this workshop, we will explore various lenses for close-up and macro photography, including optical accessories like extension tubes and the unique Canon MP-E 65mm lens, which offers 5:1 magnification. We'll cover lighting techniques such as flash, continuous lighting, and diffusion, as well as camera support and accessories. Additionally, we'll delve into focus stacking and other macro photography practices.
While this workshop does not include editing techniques, I am happy to discuss my methods. If we struggle to find subjects in the area, we can use specimens from my natural history collection to ensure successful results. I am not deterred by poor weather; thus, these workshops proceed 9 times out of 10.
6-Hour Home-Studio Workshop
This workshop will take place at your location, so you'll need a small space for the setup. We'll need room for a tripod, two lighting stands, and some space to move around—think the size of a large dining table. During this session, we'll work with my traveling natural history collection, which includes small items like insects, tiny skulls, sea glass, micro slides, shells, and various other curious objects.
Please note that I only travel within Nottingham. If your location is outside Nottingham, we may need to discuss arrangements. Since this workshop is indoors, our hours are flexible and not restricted to 09:00 - 16:00.
In this workshop, we'll explore how different lighting techniques affect various items. For instance, we'll use polarizing lighting on glass-contained subjects, backlighting on others, and focus stacking with the stacking table. We'll also delve into photography with the MP-E 65mm lens. Contact me to see what specific offerings are available in this workshop.
The cost for this 6-hour session is £300.00. If you wish to include others in the workshop, we can discuss how to adjust the pricing accordingly.
Portfolio Review
I offer a portfolio review service via email for £25.00 per ten images. This thorough review will highlight your strengths and suggest areas for improvement. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced photographer, this feedback is invaluable. Learning from others is essential—I often have my work reviewed and usually pay more than this price for it.

These sessions might not be one-on-one and can accommodate up to three photographers. I will supply Godox flash heads and triggers for your use. For more details on these workshops, please get in touch.

If you prefer a longer session, we can schedule it for earlier or later in the day. Please contact me to discuss how I can assist with your needs.

My Favourite’s form my Bug Collection
Here is a glimpse of my natural history collection. While I have a variety of subjects, bugs are my favourite. I always carry a few with me. That way, if we don't find anything interesting to photograph, the bugs are always available. I prefer photographing and learning over spending too much time searching for subjects.
